Clearing
Clearing Explained

Clearing is a process that matches prospective students with spare university places, offering students who have not secured a place on a course another chance to get into university. If your child has not got the right grades for the course they applied for and would like to go into Clearing, they need to visit the UCAS website as soon as possible, where they will automatically be allocated a Clearing Number. They are free to directly approach as many universities as they wish during this period and will be asked for their Clearing Number before they are considered.
This is a busy time for thousands of applicants, all competing for places. It is also a hectic time for most universities, sorting out both existing and new applicants. However, it is still very important that
your son or daughter takes the time they need to consider their options and make the right decision on a course and a university. Hasty and ill-informed decisions can increase your child’s risk of dropping out, so one of the things you can do is make sure they don’t panic and rush into any decisions.
